Washington, D.C. – Spectrum for the Future, a diverse coalition of innovators, anchor institutions, and technology companies, responded to the National Spectrum Strategy released today by the Biden Administration.

“Shared spectrum is the lynchpin of any strategy aimed at delivering more options, speedier access, lower costs, and greater innovation in wireless technology,” said Spectrum for the Future spokesperson Tamara Smith. “Consumers win when providers compete, which is why the National Telecommunications and Information Administration must prioritize diversity in spectrum ownership and use cases – not exclusive use by a handful of wireless providers. The 3 GHz band is uniquely suited for shared licensing, and the Department of Defense’s latest analysis of the feasibility of sharing in the 3 GHz, plus the opportunity to build on the Citizens Broadband Radio Service’s proven model of success, demonstrate a path to quickly maximize commercial access to spectrum without undermining critical defense applications. Given the comprehensive analysis undertaken by public and private sector stakeholders over the last two years, further study appears unnecessary and only delays delivery of much-needed benefits for consumers. We look forward to working with the Administration to accelerate progress in the months ahead.”
