Spectrum for the Future Statement on NTIA Report Supporting Sharing in the 37GHz Band
Washington, D.C. – Spectrum for the Future, a diverse coalition of innovators, anchor institutions, and technology companies, welcomed a new report from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) outlining recommendations for an innovative sharing framework in the 37 GHz band. The report represents the first in a series of band-specific reviews called for in the National Spectrum Strategy.
“The new report underscores why spectrum sharing is vital to U.S. wireless leadership, innovation, and national security,” said Tamara Smith, spokesperson for Spectrum for the Future. “We applaud the NTIA and DoD for making swift progress on a shared framework in the lower 37 GHz band, which is ideal for a diverse range of uses – from Internet of Things networks to smart cities to mobile offload. This band promises to be a hotbed for innovation, unlocking new and more competitive options for consumers, while ensuring the U.S. military has the tools it needs to keep the nation safe. We hope to see NTIA and DoD continue to leverage American-led innovation in dynamic sharing as it works to open new opportunities in other bands.”
