Spectrum for the Future Statement on FCC Proposal for CBRS Updates

Aug 16, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Spectrum for the Future, a diverse coalition of innovators, anchor institutions, and technology companies, released the following statement today on the Noticed of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) regarding further changes by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to operating parameters for the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS).

We look forward to working with the FCC to study whether technical changes might unlock new opportunities for the kind of low-power, locally licensed CBRS networks that have accelerated deployment among an extraordinary variety of users – from smart factories to college campuses – and turbo-charged wireless competition. We encourage the FCC to reject calls to raise power levels, which would fundamentally alter the nature of the spectrum. Strong public-private collaboration has been central to the success of CBRS, and with no more ‘greenfield’ spectrum available, it’s a model that will remain the lynchpin of any successful national spectrum strategy well into the future,” said Tamara Smith, spokesperson for Spectrum for the Future.
