Spectrum for the Future Celebrates Implementation of CBRS 2.0

Washington, D.C. – Spectrum for the Future, a diverse coalition of innovators, anchor institutions, and technology companies, welcomed the successful launch of the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) 2.0. Spectrum Access System (SAS) administrators began implementing updates to the spectrum sharing framework late last week, following the certification of demonstration and testing submitted to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (WTB) and Office of Engineering and Technology (OET).

“Implementation of CBRS 2.0 – a significant advancement of the original CBRS framework – will bring the benefits of shared spectrum to 72 million more consumers. With these changes, federal incumbents like the U.S. Navy can continue using this spectrum for critical radar operations, while thousands of local CBRS operators can expand their use of mid-band spectrum to deliver new and better services to consumers – whether they are checking in at the airport or enjoying a live sporting event. We applaud this important step in the expansion of CBRS and look forward to seeing this band continue to evolve as a hotbed for innovation and competition,” said Tamara Smith, spokesperson for Spectrum for the Future.
