In case you missed it – FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez called the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) a “success” yesterday at the FCC’s Open Commission Meeting, highlighting the shared spectrum band’s role in fueling American innovation across a diverse ecosystem of American companies and users. Commissioner Gomez further stressed that she would “be concerned” about what changes to CBRS “does to the competitive ecosystem in our country” if a proposal to relocate or alter the band in any significant way emerges.

“I think CBRS was a very interesting way to share spectrum, and it’s been a success…We saw a lot of companies create very innovative business plans to directly compete against the national companies on provision of internet services,” said Commissioner Gomez. “And so my concern is that we not throw that out. We have to acknowledge that it’s an important resource for direct competitors of other ISPs. So I don’t have a proposal before me on CBRS…but…if something comes before me, I will be concerned about what this does to the competitive ecosystem in our country.”

CBRS is an American success story and a driver of tremendous innovation, economic growth, and national leadership. From manufacturing and precision agriculture to education and aviation, the innovation band is spurring competition, creating jobs, and generating billions of dollars of investments by U.S. companies. We urge the FCC to protect CBRS and reject Big Wireless’ calls to change the band.
